PAUL, George Andrew June 20th 1949 - August 6th 2013 It is with profound sadness that the Paul and McKinnon families announce the passing of George Paul. While his struggle with cancer made his life challenging at the end, his incredible optimism and deep love of family made his final months very satisfying. Born in Nipigon, Ontario, George was raised in Port Alberni. He was predeceased by parents Isabel and Andy Paul and his sister Cheryl Paul. As a loving husband of more than 40 years to Patricia and proud father to Erin and Heather, son-in-law of Evelyn Boyden, brother of Lynne (Maurice) McKinnon, brother-in-law of Maureen (Henry) Somers and Brenda (Rick) Crowley, uncle and cousin to many others, it was George's deep connection to family and his well honed sense of humour that ensured joy constantly surrounded him and all those he loved. George spent 38 years in public service working for the Cities of Penticton, Prince George, and more briefly for the City of Campbell River, Strathcona Regional District, and the Municipal Finance Authority of BC. He is a Past President and Life Member of the BC Local Government Management Association. George enjoyed everyday of his career and especially enjoyed the volunteerism that came as a natural part of his job duties. Helping to establish the Penticton Ironman Triathlon, and serving on the society's board was extremely gratifying, as was serving as the President of the Penticton Granite (Curling) Club. Hatching the seeds of the Prince George Community Foundation with Mayor John Backhouse was a proud accomplishment. He was also proud of the small part he played in the establishment of the University of Northern BC. He brought humour, laughter, and a unique brand of craziness to his life and those that shared it. His caring spirit will be forever remembered. A Celebration of his life will be held at Nanoose Place Community Center, 2925 Northwest Bay Rd, Parksville BC, on August 31 at 1:30pm. For those wishing to share thoughts or condolences please email Remembering.George@shaw.ca

STEEVES, Wayne A long time resident of Kelowna passed away on August 4, 2013 at Kelowna General Hospital. He had a fantastic exit on his own terms, just as he wanted, with family around him. Wayne was a great husband, daddy, grandpa, friend and buddy. He will be missed by all who ever met him. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on December 8, 1930 to the late George and Ivy Steeves; he graduated in 1947 from Bedford Road Collegiate in Saskatoon, SK. In 1955 he met and married Lytta, later having one daughter, Wendy (Lilly). Moved to Kelowna in 1972 from Regina where he drove a STC bus for 19 years. In Kelowna he worked for Arena Motors, and later worked and retired from Orchard Ford. Wayne volunteered for many organizations. He spent many years driving the Masonic cancer car taking people to and from their treatments here at the Kelowna Cancer Center. He was a long time member of the Shriners organization and a member of the Kelowna Cycle Corp. He volunteered many hours to raise money for sick children. Wayne had the gift of gab and treated every person the same, he never judged anyone and always had something funny to say to people when he met them. He always left an impression. Later in life, his favourite place to be was with his coffee buddies and senior bingo where he enjoyed a visit or two. His humour never left him almost to the very end. Wayne left behind his wife Lytta Steeves, his daughter Lilly (Wendy Steeves) Stowell, John Stowell, and Dean; grandson Jason Steeves from Charlottetown, PEI; granddaughter Jasmine (Vance) Ramsay from Edmonton, AB; great grandsons Noah and Joshua Ramsay from Edmonton and Logan Steeves from PEI; and great granddaughter Hannah Steeves from PEI. Wayne also leaves many nieces and nephews and many relatives from Alberta, Saskatoon, Ontario and BC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Wayne's name to the Freemason Okanagan Cancer Car Project, 2251 Abbott Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1E2. There will be no service by his request. Gone but never forgotten.

MOENCH, Paige With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, Paige Darrell Ann Moench. Our beautiful little Paige gathered her last thoughts and memories, put on her tiny wings and left this earth peacefully on Aug 6, 2013 at 3:42 in the morning with her Mommy, Daddy and big brother Easton right at her side. She went to heaven at the age of 22 months. Paige was born a healthy, smiley baby on October 3, 2011. She was best described as an "easy baby", she ate well, slept well and played every moment she wasn't doing either of those. In her sixteen months of life prior to her leukemia diagnosis, Paige lived a full life. She was able to experience family vacations to southern California and Maui in 2012. She played aboard a whale watching tour and strolled the beaches at sunset. She loved playing with other kids, going to the park, and boating on Okanagan Lake with her family. She was a girly girl and loved sporting her tutu on her first birthday, was attracted to sparkly things, but also loved to roll around in the sand. Paige was full of LIGHT, LOVE and HAPPINESS. She smiled and laughed easily, was moved by music, hugged with all her might and loved to play with her big brother Easton. Paige taught everyone around her to find joy in the simple things. She will be remembered for her love of long walks, reading books and tracing hands. She was an expert at blowing bubbles, making impeccable animal sounds and hosting the finest of tea parties. Above all she was happy. She was so very, very special And was so from the start We held her in our arms But mainly in our hearts And like a single drop of rain That on still waters fall Her life did ripples make And touched the lives of all She's gone to play with angels In heaven up above We keep our special memories And treasure them with love Although our darling Paige Was with us just a while She'll live on in our hearts With a sweet remembered smile The support of our family, friends and community over the last 6 months enabled us to spend every moment possible with our baby girl while she fought leukemia. She was brave and so extraordinarily strong through all that she had to endure; her strength inspired us, and everyone around us. We would like to thank B.C. Children's Hospital, oncology staff as well as the loving care providers at Canucks Place Children's Hospice where Paige lived out the last of her days in comfort. Paige leaves to mourn her mother Natelle Moench (grandparents Kimberly Wallan and the late Darrell Sawchuk), her father Chris Moench (grandparents Bonnie and Gerald Moench) and devoted big brother Easton (4 years old). She will be missed by family and friends near and far. A celebration of Paige's precious life will be held on Saturday, August 24th 2013 at 4:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home in Kelowna. Light snacks and refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canucks Place Children's Hospice in honour of Paige.
